“I thought y’all were moving to Colorado” // eMi Update

…a comment we have been hearing a great deal lately, and with good reason. Initially we thought it could be as early as January and here it is May and we are still in Auburn! So, what is going on? The quick and easy answer is that we are waiting on the sale of our house. We have been working to build our support team and while we are still hoping to have a few more people partner with us before we leave Auburn, we have reached a point where we are ready to move to Colorado as soon as our home sells.

On one hand, it is a tough place to be because it sure would be nice to have a little more control over the process and have a firm idea as to when this is going to happen. Honestly, it can be downright discouraging at times when I allow my mind to take control over my spirit and I begin to question if this can truly be God’s plan for us if He is allowing a road block like this to remain in the way. On the other hand, it is freeing to know that God is in complete control, that He has definitely called us to this, and His timing is perfect. In fact, every time I start to have doubts and cry out to God, He has been faithful to provide the assurance I am needing not only in regards to His plan for us with eMi, but also His plans for us right here in Auburn while we wait. Over the past four months of waiting we have endeavored to be faithful with what He has given us right here and now and as a result have seen His hand at work and this time has not be wasted!

Another completely understandable question some of our supporters may be asking is, “where is our money going if you are still here?” All donations that have been made to eMi on our behalf have been deposited into our support account and are reserved for when we officially start with eMi. We get an account update every week from eMi showing us the history of donations, any new donations, and the current account balance. We continue to be overwhelmed by the generosity and the prayer support of our ministry partners and we are incredibly thankful for each of you! As we are faithful with what God has given us right here and we anticipate His perfect timing in our departure to Colorado, God is also continuing to do incredible things through the ministry of eMi. I am remaining in contact with the people I will be working with and they are anxious for my arrival as well. I was recently informed that there are already people making donations directly to eMi’s new Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) program thanks to the work of my predecessor at eMi, Sarah Young, who is now a technical advisor at Living Water International. I will be continuing the development of this WASH program upon my arrival and it is exciting to see that there are people that I haven’t even met yet who are believing and investing in this ministry area of eMi!

There have also been a number of incredible design projects that eMi has had the opportunity to participate in so far this year. One of the ministries that eMi has worked extensively with this year and in previous years is the Tenwek Hospital in Bomet, Kenya. Tenwek is a 300-bed hospital with a wide range of surgical, medical, maternity and pediatric services. Tenwek Hospital is one of the largest mission hospitals in Africa. It provides primary health care to 600,000 Kipsigis people within a 32 kilometer radius and serves as a referral center for a much larger region. Tenwek operates under the motto “We Treat – Jesus Heals.” They currently have plans and funding to build two large buildings that eMi has already designed. The fifth eMi design team to serve at Tenwek Hospital went in February of this year and, in June, eMi will be sending it’s sixth design team to serve them further. Below is a link to a video with more information about the ministry at Tenwek Hospital.
